Video-Driven Creation of Virtual Avatars by Component-based Transferring of Facial Expressions

چکیده
This paper proposes an efficient and economic video-driven technique that enables the instant creation of a large diversity of virtual avatars and the automatic syntheses of vivid facial animations. The proposed technique addresses the expression transferring problem which transfers a given facial expression of a source human character to the corresponding one of a synthesized avatar. In tackling the expression transferring problem, we propose a component-based approach which is more appealing than the existing approaches which treat the whole face as a single unit for expression transferring. Our approach acquires a much higher diversity in synthesizing virtual avatars and facial expressions by composing the synthesized target face from the facial components of different avatars. The proposed method achieves a good way to transfer the synthesizing parameters acquired from the source human face to those of the target avatar face which complies well with the person-specific characteristics of the target avatar. Additionally, the removal of color inconsistencies among the facial components from different avatars is also well handled. Some experimental results are demonstrated to show that the proposed method can achieve interesting and colorful transfers of facial expressions and synthesize a large diversity of virtual avatars instantly.

Virtual reality is rapidly evolving into a pragmatically usable technology for mental health (MH) applications. As the underlying enabling technologies continue to evolve and allow us to design more useful and usable structural virtual environments (VEs), the next important challenge will involve populating these environments with virtual representations of humans (avatars). This will be vital ...
متن کاملFacial Expression Recognition Based on Anatomical Structure of Human Face
Automatic analysis of human facial expressions is one of the challenging problems in machine vision systems. It has many applications in human-computer interactions such as, social signal processing, social robots, deceit detection, interactive video and behavior monitoring. In this paper, we develop a new method for automatic facial expression recognition based on facial muscle anatomy and hum...

We present IMU2Face, a gesture-driven facial reenactment system. To this end, we combine recent advances in facial motion capture and inertial measurement units (IMUs) to control the facial expressions of a person in a target video based on intuitive hand gestures. IMUs are omnipresent, since modern smart-phones, smart-watches and drones integrate such sensors; e.g., for changing the orientatio...

Progress in computer graaphics over the last decade has rendered the creation of believable anthropomorphic graphical avatars possible. Issues in rendering these animated graphical avatars believable and engaging during Human-Computer Interaction still remain. In this article, we focus on the animation of avatar’s facial expressions. We explain how we created our animation on Scherer’s theory o...
متن کاملThe Effects of Avatars on Co-presence in a Collaborative Virtual Environment
Presence in Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs) can be divided into personal presence and co-presence. Personal presence is having a feeling of “being there” in the CVE oneself. Co-presence is having a feeling that one is in the same place as the other participants, and that one is collaborating with real people. We investigated the effects that avatar realism and functionality (in terms ...
